Aprendiendo Juntos Supports Parents, Grandparents, at Family Resource Centers

Aprendiendo Juntos/Learning Together is a program that is part of the Cesar Chavez Family Resource Center's (FRC) many parenting programs. Alma, a caregiver to her young grandson, was part of Aprendiendo Juntos and found that her parenting knowledge quickly increased as her time in the program progressed. During discussions with other parents and caregivers, Alma spoke openly about her parenting and caregiving experiences, often inspiring others to follow her lead.

Ryan, Alma's grandson attended the program with her. When he began the program, he was nonverbal and found it difficult to socialize and play with other children; however, by the end of the program, Ryan was more verbal, talkative, and was often found playing with other children at the FRC and in his neighborhood.

Alma and her grandson have moved on to new workshops and experiences following the end of Aprendiendo Juntos. Alma has since lead a Bridge to Kinder program, a 3-week school readiness workshop for incoming kindergartners.

"My grandson is more talkative and playful than he has ever been! He will continue coming to the FRC as he attends and learns in La Esculita, an early childhood education program. I can't wait to see how much he learns and grows over the next few months!"
