Event Description

The Lee y Serás Family Conversations Parent Workshops provide parents with an understanding of the skills their children need to become strong readers and learners. The workshops accomplish this through the use of material that acknowledges that Latino culture, traditions, practices, and everyday experiences support literacy development and prepare children for learning and life.

Participants who attend the workshops become more confident in their role in supporting their children’s early literacy skills, purposefully tell stories, sing songs, and write with their children, and engage in other activities that support early language and literacy skills.

There are six 120 minute workshop sessions. Each workshop session follows a similar format but focuses on a different topic. The conversations allow families to share their experiences in an informal and interactive environment. Each session focuses on a different theme and special message– each intended to enrich the participants’ understanding of early literacy development through celebration of Latino cultural customs and traditions.
