FIRST 5 Santa Clara County is focused on building a high quality organization, establishing strong community partnerships, and increasing awareness of the importance of the first five years of a child's life. In order to ensure that FIRST 5 Santa Clara County will be a catalyst for ensuring the developmental needs of children prenatal through age 5 are a priority in all sectors of the community, funding has been aligned under two major strategies.

• Community Engagement and Education Strategy: this is a universal countywide strategy, focused on engaging the community in the importance of the first 5 years of a child's life.
• Direct Impact Strategy: this research based strategy is focused on targeted impact services in geometric concentrations based on cumulative risk factors present in the lives of children and families.
